Summer AI entertainment. We’re at this secluded beach which you can only access either by walking through a scary trail, or by boat. I’m hiding from the brutal sun heat inside a sea cave at low tide. The air is cool. Fortunately my 5G pod works! and I’m reading Hacker News on my laptop. I see my partner in the distance gesticulating and yelling at me loudly: “NO!! No laptops, no bloody freaking Internet on the beach! Not-on-the-beach!!!”… I get the message: I should be playing some demanding beach sport now. OK, well: here’s a few suggestions on Summer AI entertainment:
Play generative agents simulations. Days ago, the researchers from Stanford & Google who developed The Smallville World game, released the source code. This is an amazing simulation game -inspired by The Sims- in which 25 generative agents have human-like lives and behaviours. The agents uses LLMs to interact with each other. Checkout the source code, instructions, & paper: Generative Agents for Simulating Human Behaviour [now open source]
Learn about Neuro-Symbolic AI. Today it seems as though transformers and scale is all you need to succeed in AI. There is an increasing number of researchers that are proposing to combine neural and symbolic architectures to overcome many of the challenges of deep learning. Read a long chain of reads on Out-of-Distribution (OOD.) One of the main issues in DL, is the assumption that whatever data the model processes in production should be 'similar' to the data on which the model was trained on (aka in-distribution.) Unfortunately, the real world is not static and constantly evolving, and so is the data we feed into the model. OOD Detection is an emerging trend in DL research aiming to address this issue. Read more here: OOD Detection, Robustness, and Generalisation.
Watch a short on AI life. "I'm going to rename a file after you”…AI Boyfriend, is a really funny, well-scripted short with some brilliant quotes… as part of the show: How to Survive the AI Apocalypse.
Escape the heat, run for shade. Drink a Martini and lots of water.
Have a nice week.
